4 minutes to save the weekend

3 days holiday and I don't have anything to write about. seriously, how boring does that sound?

i slept at night and woke up on the same bed without any hang-over, and worse.. still fully clothed and all.

ok i did meet some ppl over, and it was fun but that was it. it's not like i painted any town red, harrased someone or did a handjob in a taxi.

i think i'm just slowing down. you know, besides the fact that everybody in my phone book suddenly disappeared on friday morning faster than i could say 'good friday.

on thurday night, one of my dear friend called me from bangkok saying he's posted there for the moment. so there was i, suddenly having free bangkok accommodation and perfect company in all dark alleys adventours during these no-plan-nada-nothing long weekend.

but of course there were no flight tickets left. they were probably already snatched away from last year, i felt foolish to even care surfing the air-asia websites.

oh well, at least i got this shanghai real-time night sky view via mobile, so it was like being abroad anyway. it's the next best thing, or maybe the third or whatever.

despite all those wars, conflicts, deterorating mankind talks and stuff, there are indeed wonderful ppl in this world that always managed to put a smile on your face (thanks roland!).

another smile came about when another friend messaged me saying a forgotten empty durex box and covers are causing a crisis in his relationship because his secret rendezvous was almost exposed.

haha what a mess.

i've finalized my KK and brunei trip this may. ok minus the fact that mt kinabalu resort only managed to secure bed for only one of us, with another two in waiting list.

i didn't know bed has waiting list. they even mailed to ask me to confirm my bookings. perhaps after this they would be giving me boarding pass!

on top of that, there's already talk for sipadan trip in august too, which quickly prompted plan to take PADI license. i don't know why but recently i have this craving for a nice beach holiday. i got orgasm just to think about it.

ok i should not have written those and jinxed my chance of actually going. just the other day we were talking about Murphy's law during lunch break at work. yes, we are nerds big time, i know.

borrowing wikipedia's definition,

'Murphy's law states that things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance'

any situation. plan an outing, then it will rain. wait for the bus and it won't come. change queue line and the one you left would be faster. those sorts of things.

if you asked me, god does work in mysterious ways. and if you asked me again, this Murphy guy should be shot to pieces.

because i swear that was what happened to my tibet trip. i announced it to the world and voila, it ended up cancelled, or postphoned to make it sound nicer.

although after watching those riots that has been happening there, with alleged killings from both tibetan and chinese sides, maybe it was divine intervention that made me not to go.

in fact, maybe it was divine intervention too that i didn't get to go anywhere this long weekend 'till i spotted roots planted firmly onto my bedroom floor. at least, i'd like to think it was.

so what did i do? discover new musics. amuro namie just released her latest single and i'm hooked. it's like drugs, somebody please put me in rehab.

it's a 3 songs single from each the 60's, 70's and 80's musical style, thus how 60s70s80s title came about. it's just like christina aguilera going back to basic but in japanese version.

christina trapped in janet jackson's shake-booty body that is.

i just can't get enough of that 'rock steady' number. i bet that killer hook would sound so goood in clubs.

not that i'm going clubbing anytime soon. my friends all went MIA, remember? i'm so staying put, on a bed without any hang-over, fully clothed and no handjob.

duh.

'Happy Easter Sunday' everyone!!

once upon a fairy tale

now i have extra activity at work. in between the servers crunching my commands, i peeked through various online news sites about the forming of new states government in malaysia.

this is so like jumping into the latest trend bandwagon. everybody suddenly is very interested in malaysian politics. even more than the current american idol top 12.

especially now that the dust has settled, came a few after-shocks that kept us talking. or swearing in my case.

man i was very disappointed in what happened in perak's chief minister's selection. for awhile, it made me wonder if i had woken up from this fairy tale win dream.

don't get me wrong, i still detest BN but BN or not, it's never wise to play the race card.

have they forgotten who voted them in the first place? the convoy riders that escorted their candidates while campaigning include those in greens too. plus, 30% population in the state won't magically gives you 18 seats.

my point is, we should move away from these racial oriented sentiments. the rockets should not be overly wary of the moon. the moon should never impose itself onto the rockets. it's time to look beyond our colours.

the good news is, the last i heard is that they have settled the dispute. thank god. i whole-heartedly hope it was just a blip. one tiny blip that one hundred percent settled. after all, what's the point of getting the chief minister position for 4 years and then lost it forever?

remember the power of people put them there. they can always take it back. be it after the next election, or even right now. statistically, BN just need 2 more seats to get perak back.

they should learn from penang. ok penang might be a different case since the winning party is obvious. but the fact that they made effort to stress that no particular race would be left behind is truly a good start.

and about that hot NEP issue, i'm all for that to be corrected, and i'm from the side that supposedly got the benefit from it. from my eyes, NEP has become a tool for certain well-connected people to get all the tenders and build up their over-the-top wealth.

i'm wondering, has protecting and gently caressing a certain group of people made the community too dependant and lost competitiveness? i mean, try put your beloved pet fish in the open sea and see how many of them survive the wild.

i'm thinking, not a lot.

i found it amusing that the mainstream news are still reporting these current opposition-led states developments from the negative angle. i thought now that former i-can-speak-english information minister has lost in the election, the media would be all revamped and be a bit more less biased.

but no, they kept on focusing on the opposition's perak news and penang NEP news with zero coverage on that terengganu chief minister's selection hassle. we heard nothing about the king's multiple rejection of the nominee from the ruling party until the istana had to cancel the oath ceremony.

how embarassing is that? even one party state could not form a government properly.

it's interesting that utusan malaysia on march 10 reported that the cancellation was due to the nominated candidate was in kl. i mean, this guy must be darn powerful until he could make the terengganu king wait for him. plus, how far is it kl from terengganu? like 5 minutes away in their world of private jets.

all i want to say is, we must be wary of negative propaganda, be it on our face or hidden.

i'm not trying to prove any point here and get all political. god knows how many political oriented websites out there now. i'd just like to merely putting my views and hope that this election win is just the first step to strive towards one malaysia for malaysian community that abandon all racial barriers to be able to solely focus to improve all aspect of our lives.

sound a bit lame but that would be my fairy tale ending.

memoirs of an electoral virgin

i woke up last saturday hearing my mum humming the election song.

what an unusual morning.

indeed it was. i have never voted before. i don't think i've even cared much about it up till now so i was suprised how excited i was to this whole process of democracy.

although it might not be pure democracy considering all tricks and lies in this whole election system.

nevertheless, i still got butterfly in my tummy, which i know was a bit silly. i mean it was just one tiny vote! still i couldn't help felt a bit anxious, like we were up on a mission or something.

walking out on that fine sunny saturday morning, i found the town has been embraced in colourful shades of blue, red and green. i had just arrived in KL the night before so everything was a pleasant suprise.

they truly painted the town, well, in many colours. i wondered where these people got all those flags from? had i not worry that my car got scratched or being thrown something in protest if i showed my party preference, i would have stolen some of those.

for my region, it was BN vs PKR for Parlimentary seat, and BN vs PAS for State seat.

it was not all face-punching and stone throwing between these parties though, like this boy and this lady who could exist side by side in peace.

inspiring.

there were masquarades of 'vote beggers' , as what i called them, along the road heading towards the voting stations.

you could tell which party people were rooting for by a mere glance of how they treated these horn-blowers. the supporters normally would stopped by for a chat or just smiled and waved. cars would lowered their windows or hit their horns. non-supporters would just walked passed by, often with a roll on their eyes.

it was all very lively, like there was a massive family day or something.

seriously they should do this more often. i mean, this is the time you noticed your neighbours. although in seconds later chances are you gonna see some of them walking towards the wrong party booth and that changed your whole perception of them =)

this kind of temporary party-specific booths were erected for us to confirm our registration and check our voting station.

which i think kinda redundant since you can just proceed to SPR booth to do that.

but apparently if they found that you've been removed to another voting station (like what happened to this uncle when we were there), they could drive you there for free.

talk about sweetening ppl up huh =p

this is my voting slip, specially prepared by the voting parties. it tells us who the contestants are, where to cast our votes etc etc. each of us got 2, one from BN and one from PKR/PAS. my dad tore away the BN slips the moment they were given, so i was only left with this :) ...not that i'm complaining.

while i was busy checking my name in the registration list using above slip, my dad grabbed this pole and started waving the flag.

well.. that's my dad!

then we proceeded to our voting station. it was at this islamic primary school, which were surrounded by yellow SPR tape indicating region inside was off-bound to any campaigning.

and for me, the region where i wasn't allowed to shoot any photo. damn!

so i had voted. i had done my part. i had voiced my opinion. it felt great. i know whatever the result would be, at least i had done something.

man i should vote more often haha...

there were lots of this kind of poster-filled cars roaming the roads. i heard that the drivers were paid to go around the neighbourhood for the whole day.

that just showed money can do anything for you.

you know, just before the election day the ruling party improved our neighbourhood roads too, as last minute vote-caller attempt.

you'd think we'd be happy but just look underneath the lorry. they just skipped that road portion because the lorry was there.

don't you think the scene below is an eye-sore? i believe a car parked there the day they did the road works.

not to mention all those bumpers that they didn't even bother to repaint, causing unsuspected non-neighbourhood-familiar driver like me to unsuspectedly bumped into and started swearing.

all i can say is, what a half-hearted figure.

lastly, here are some of the interesting banners i found along the way.

enjoy!
